[Steuard is finally catching up on old stuff he's been meaning to post here.]

A while back, a friend of mine linked to one of the comics below, and I eventually tracked down the whole series. I don't know what I would have thought of them five years ago, but given where my life is today I find them all tremendously sweet. When you have a look, it may help to remember that Francis Bacon was a philosopher, too.

Here are the first, second, third, and fourth entries in the series; I think that's the complete list.

I first heard this song by Tim Minchin last year a bit before Christmas, and it's become one of my favorite songs for the holidays. It's not 100% applicable to me, but it captures a lot of the spirit and emotion that I feel in this season. It's particularly poignant for me since my family has wound up being so scattered about the country in the past few years (and the bits about his daughter are swiftly becoming more meaningful, too). For those listening for the first time, note that the tone (or at least the focus) of the lyrics shifts somewhat about halfway through.

Oh, and in case you're confused about the title, note that Minchin lives in Australia: Christmas tends to look a bit different down there.

Ten years ago today, Kim and I got married. That's an absolutely amazing and scary and remarkable thought. There have of course been bits of tension and frustration along the way, and at times we both suspect the most surprising thing is that we've managed to find someone who can put up with our, er, "endearing quirks". But on the whole, this "life partners" thing is still working out astoundingly well for us and we're both unshakably convinced that the other is awesome. We still grin like newlyweds entirely too often, too. We're tremendously fortunate.

Kim, I love you! Here's to many more great decades to come.
