Apparently, there was a magnitude 5.0 earthquake north of Ottawa yesterday afternoon. Cameron (our other physicist) heard about it because his mother was fairly close and felt it clearly. I didn't notice a thing here, but if you dig through the USGS responses, someone from Alma claimed they did. I thought I was through with these things when I left California!

After I subscribed to the USGS site so that it notifies me automatically of any quake over 5.0 in the US and anything over 6.0 internationally, I've been amazed at how many quakes occur. I never realized just how regular they were world-wide, it's just that usually they don't cause any human destruction because they are remote, so we don't hear anything about them.
