Beethoven's 9th is an absolutely glorious symphony, and Kim and I are performing it this weekend as faculty hangers-on to the Alma College Choir. It's been fun practicing with them for the past couple of weeks, and we're enjoying the chance to revisit this bit of our own college experience.

I'm especially enjoying this because I've realized in the past several months that I've been missing music lately. It's not that I don't listen to music, though it's been rare for me to sit back and do just that recently. But that's a change for me! From elementary school through high school I played trumpet and sang in various groups almost all the time. I didn't do as much in college, but I had a great time once I joined the choir there. And then that was that: once I went to grad school I stopped, and this weekend will be my first music performance in over ten years. It feels good.
