Via [livejournal.com profile] ukelele, here's a video that I have to pass along:

It's surprisingly well done, with a lot of good humor. The transition into an actual KU campus library orientation video was smooth enough that it took me a minute to realize that's what it was. But do stick it out, or at least jump ahead to find when orientation ends: there are a couple of good bits when the story concludes after that bit.

So, how was their Elvish?

Sadly, I'm really not an authority on spoken Elvish. I recognized at least some of the words as being more or less right, but I can't comment on detailed vocabulary and grammar. But they clearly weren't just faking it, which impressed me all by itself.

(Well, okay, one specific comment: they translated "Elvish" as "Eldarin", which is a rather general term. Tolkien and his characters much more frequently refer to the specific languages Quenya or Sindarin. So I think "minoring in Eldarin" would be rather like "minoring in romance languages". I think it's a valid choice, but perhaps not the one I would have made.)
