It has been called to my attention by multiple people that "There has been remarkably little recent catblogging!" and that I should "Post more kitty pictures!!" Part of the difficulty can be seen here:

Callie blocking my laptop.

More to the point, we've been pretty busy, and if I'm thinking about cats it's more fun to play with them than to talk about them. But they're napping right now, so perhaps it's time to share some of the pictures we've taken over the past month.

First of all, I should introduce our cats properly. From left to right below, they are Polly, Callie, and Nia:

Polly, Callie, and Nia eating dinner.

(Mind you, those are just nicknames: if you like trivia, try to figure out the full names of these sisters.) Polly is the biggest climber and jumper of the group:

Polly on top of some boxes.

She's also the most vocal of the three (that's a hint on her name, too), and she's inordinately fond of attacking crinkly things like plastic and tape. Callie is probably the most eager to explore new places, and thus the most likely to get into the "no cat zones" in the house:

Callie stares down the camera.

She is smaller than her sisters, though she's close enough now that we often have to recognize her by her narrow tail. Finally, Nia is the calmest of the three:

Nia contemplating the tube toy.

That's a relative thing, of course: "calmest" for a kitten means that she's marginally more likely to stay calmly in a lap when the other two start tearing around the house like little rockets. But it's just as likely that she'll instead leap out and attack them from above.

Unfortunately, we haven't managed to grab a camera while they've been dashing around and wrestling very often: that requires some very quick reactions. But since they're cats, we've had quite a few opportunities to catch them while they're being cute and sleepy (though they still always know you're there):

Callie, Polly, and Nia asleep on the couch. Callie stares at the camera from a cuddle pile.

Left to right above are Callie, Polly, and Nia, for those struggling to tell them apart.

Cute and sleepy sometimes happens right in our laps, too, though that doesn't tend to last all that long. Polly in particular is often the first to get up and be more active:

Three cats asleep in my lap. Me petting all three cats, with Polly rolling away. Me touching noses with Polly, with her sisters in my lap.

Kim gets to cuddle with them, too. I get the feeling that Callie (in the middle, below) isn't overly fond of the camera flash:

Kim lying down with all the cats across her torso. Kim still lying with all three cats, while Polly stretches backward.

Meanwhile, Polly (on the left) gets some good stretching in, while Nia (on the right) is content to relax on her favorite "shelf". (I can't really argue.)

Finally, what catblogging would be complete without a cat ending up somewhere she really wasn't supposed to be? A few nights ago, Kim had pulled out a colander and left it on the table where she was going to prepare some fresh green beans. When she came back with the beans, Polly had gotten there first:

Polly in the colander, staring at the camera. Polly in the colander, gnawing resentfully. Polly in the colander, claiming her territory.

I like the way Polly looks so matter-of-fact in that first picture: "What? Of course I belong here--it's comfy!" In the second, she seems to have backed off a little to just curl up and maybe gnaw suspiciously at the bowl. But she wasn't giving up her claim, oh no, and she made that clear.

Whew. That ought to satisfy those catblogging demands, at least for a little while.

KITTIES!

Nia's the easiest to tell apart because she doesn't have the big stripes on her back.

Kitty pile!

Also, Callie seems darkest, at least in photos.

Menawhile (SPOILERS, I guess?) I'm presuming Polyhymnia, Calliope, and some other muse starting with "Nia" whom I'm forgetting at the moment but I'm sure I could look up if it weren't time for lunch...

Oooh, he's smart! :-) Actually, Nia is taken from the end of her full name.

Very well done! We were originally looking specifically at sets of exactly three sisters from mythology, but none of them had names we liked. Or rather, we only found one set whose names we liked, and we had too many associations with those names already. (Though Callie would make a pretty good Skuld, I must say.)

Hmm, only one that fits that clue is Urania. She likes stars?

No: we do. :) I've tried to pseudo-justify it by claiming that her lighter grey fur (with more subtle mottling) looks like a splash of stars, but really we just liked the name.
